Overview

Dentures in Nashville

Dentures are removable teeth appliances that replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. Whether you have lost teeth due to poor dental hygiene, gum disease, or trauma, dentures are a good option for maintaining your dental health. If you lose your teeth, it affects your entire face. Without teeth, your facial muscles can sag, making you appear older. Dentures can remedy this situation by closely resembling your natural teeth and making your smile better.

What Are the Types of Dentures?

There are a variety of dentures to replace missing teeth.

Conventional or Complete Dentures

Conventional dentures are made and placed in your mouth after your remaining teeth have been removed and the tissues have healed. This may take several months. Once the tissue is healed, the patient will be fitted with their custom dentures.

Immediate
Dentures

Immediate Dentures are made and fitted the same day teeth are removed, allowing patients to leave with their new appliance. Dr. McGee will take measurements and make a model of the patient’s jaw during a preliminary appointment. While patients don’t have to be without teeth during the healing process, they may need to return to have adjustments made once the jaw has healed completely.

Partial
Dentures

If you still have remaining teeth, partial dentures complete your smile. We match them to your existing teeth. Partial dentures come in a variety of materials, including metal, lightweight acrylic, and flexible options. Dr. McGee will discuss all of the options and discuss which will work best for you.

Getting Used to Your Dentures

New dentures may feel awkward for the first several weeks as patients adjust to them, and there may be some soreness. Patients should practice good oral hygiene and brush their mouth as well as their dentures. Follow-up visits with Dr. McGee after the denture is inserted should ensure that the denture fits correctly and is working properly.

If you have any questions about dentures, don’t hesitate to ask Dr. McGee or a member of our staff. We can also set up an appointment to discuss all the ways we replace missing teeth in our Nashville dental office.
